The Epistemic Analytics lab creates novel approaches and statistical tools to improve the assessment of complex thinking.
The Interactive Learning and Design Lab designs and implements innovative, technology-rich learning environments to foster deep and engaging science and engineering knowledge for middle school students.
Visual representations can help students learn; but they can also be confusing if students do not know how the visual representations show information. Therefore, students need representational competencies: knowledge and skills that enable them to construct and interpret visual representations and to make connections between them. The Learning Representations and Technology Lab investigates which representational competencies are key to STEM learning, through which processes students acquire them, and how best to support them in instruction.
Mathematical Action and Gesture in Instruction and Cognition (MAGIC) investigates the embodied nature of learning and instruction in mathematics, science and engineering that lead to the design of educational technology and classroom interventions.
