Biography

Doy Kim is a doctoral student in the Learning Sciences area working in the MAGIC Lab with Dr. Mitchell Nathan. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in mathematics education from Seoul National University. His research interest is focused on the embodiment approach toward mathematics cognition. He strives to figure out the relationship between mathematical thinking and the use of contemporary digital technology. His current fileds of interest encompass the history, philosophy, and pedagogy of mathematics, post-structuralism, the new materialist feminist theory, and soccer and tennis. He is also a former service member of the US Army

Research

Doy’s research interest is specifically focused on the embodiment approach toward mathematics learning. Philosophically motivated by a deep curiosity about the nature of mathematical knowledge, he endeavors to understand the relationship between mathematical thinking and the body movement, especially in the contemporary digital learning environment.
